Do I have to have the same beliefs as the Veritas Homeschoolers Statement of Faith in order to be a member?
No. Veritas welcomes homeschoolers of all faiths and beliefs to find support and encouragement as a member. However, during the application and renewal process, members must acknowledge that they have read and understand that the organization and its leadership are Christian and that policies and decisions will be made according to the Statement of Faith.
Does Veritas provide a membership card that I can use for teacher discounts in stores?
Yes! Current Veritas members may continue their membership at no cost after they graduate their last child. We appreciate the wisdom, experience, and encouragement that our Veteran Members provide to support the Veritas members who are still on the journey. Special instructions for Veteran Members are provided on the application page which is completed during the renewal period.
I’m graduating my youngest child, can I still be a member of Veritas even though I’m done homeschooling?
If I move during the year, can I get a refund on my membership?
No. Membership fees are not prorated or refunded when a member joins or leaves in the middle of the membership year. Those who join Veritas after May 1st will have their membership fee carried through the next year. If they chose to pay the discounted rate, they will be contacted to sign up for a volunteer slot in the Fall.
What does my membership fee pay for?
Annual membership fees are used to pay for a number of administration costs such as our web site hosting service, web site maintenance and upgrades, bank fees, postage, and our P.O. box. All additional funds are used for Veritas events and activities or donated to a homeschool non-profit (like AFHE) at the end of each year.
How long does my membership last and how do I renew?
Membership last for one year – August 1st through July 31st of the following year, at which point the directory is reset. In June, current members will be reminded to renew by July 31st to maintain uninterrupted access to the website and Veri-talk. Any members who have not reapplied by that date will be removed from the website and Veri-talk until their application and payment are received.
Who runs Veritas? Does it have a President like some organizations?
Veritas Homeschoolers is a volunteer-led organization. Since it’s creation in 1993, members have contributed to the planning, administration, and organization of different activities. While all members contribute, there is a Board of Directors / Planning Committee of 3-7 members who are responsible for the behind-the-scenes duties such as managing the finances, processing new and renewing members, Veri-talk administration, as well as ensuring that Veritas remains a peaceful and positive environment through policy establishment and implementation. The board President / Chairperson leads the semi-annual Board meetings, initiates voting on different issues, and generally looks at the organization from a high-level view to ensure we remain relevant and supportive of all our members as they continue on their homeschool journey.
